The OutReach Seminar focuses on the subject of Banknote Design and Perception Science.

Seminar Objectives Include:
» To create awareness on the subject of Perception Science.
» To introduce the key theories, concepts and techniques use in Perception Science.
» To demonstrate and illustrate the benefits central banks and designers can derive from Perception Science.
» To present case studies and examples showing how Perception Science has had a positive and valuable impact on banknote design.
» To present and explain the key vocabulary used in the domain of Perception Science.
» To present strategies, techniques and roadmaps that central banks and designers can use to develop and execute their own perception studies.
» To present the key parameters, rules and caveats applicable in the domain of Perception Science and associated studies.
» To provide practical tips and advice to ensure a successful and productive perception study.

Seminar Leader: Professor Jane E. Raymond

Professor Jane E. Raymond holds the Chair of Visual Cognition at the School of Psychology, University of Birmingham, UK and is CEO of Secure Perception Research, Ltd. She has been actively engaged in basic and applied research in Experimental Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience for nearly 30 years and has specific expertise in human perception, selective attention and emotional response.

Jane is perhaps best known in academic circles for her discovery of the “attentional blink”, a brief lapse of visual consciousness that can be provoked by selective attention. She has published over 100 scientific peer-reviewed articles, has had extensive editorial experience in her field’s top-flight scientific journals, and serves on a major UK Research Council grant review panel.

In addition to her internationally recognised basic research on human brain function, Jane also pursues an active program of applied research that innovatively links cognitive neuroscience to consumer behaviour and marketing. Points of keen interest are how attention and memory contribute to the emotional and evaluative responses that determine the perception of value, genuineness, and liking of products and communications. Jane uses a range of techniques in her research including verbal report, response time, eye movement analysis, EEG, and fMRI. Her research has been funded by the UK Research Councils (BBSRC, ESRC) and by numerous contracts and awards from the public and private sector. She received the prestigious WPP/GoogleMarketing Research Award in 2010 for her work on attention to advertisement on web pages.
